How Parents Can Track Their Child's Quran Progress

Parents can track Quran progress by knowing the stage their child is at (letters, joining, vowels, reading, Tajweed, memorisation), asking the teacher for the current level and the next milestone, listening to the child read for five minutes a day, and using the academy's progress reports and dashboard. You do not need to read Arabic yourself to do this.

Know the stages

Our learning framework has eight levels from initial assessment to advanced recitation. Ask which level your child is at and what the next milestone is. A teacher who cannot answer this clearly is not tracking progress.

What to look at each month

  • Lessons attended vs scheduled.
  • Current book and page, or current surah.
  • Homework completed.
  • The teacher's note on strengths and the current focus (for example, a Tajweed rule).
  • Memorised surahs and which ones are due for revision.

Our parent dashboard shows these on one screen.

Listen even if you cannot read Arabic

Ask your child to read the last lesson to you for five minutes. You will notice hesitation, confidence and fluency even without knowing whether each word is right. Praise effort, not speed.

Questions to ask the teacher

  1. What did you work on this week?
  2. What should we practise at home?
  3. Is there anything that is not clicking?
  4. When do you expect the next milestone?

Warning signs

  • Weeks pass with the same page and no explanation.
  • Homework is never set or never checked.
  • Your child dreads the lesson.

Raise these with the academy early. See also How Often Should a Child Have Quran Lessons?

Put this guide to use

Now try it with a teacher listening.

A guide can tell you what to do. A private lesson shows whether it is working for you or your child, and adjusts it on the spot.
