The barrier is usually not ability
Adults who never learned often carry a sense that it is too late or too embarrassing. Two facts help. First, learning to read Arabic script is a mechanical skill, not a talent; it responds to practice like any other. Second, in a private online lesson there is no one else in the room and no one to compare yourself with.
What the first month looks like
- Week 1–2: letters, their sounds, their shapes. Five minutes of daily practice.
- Week 3–4: joining letters into words. First vowel marks.
- By the end of the first month, most adults with two or three lessons a week are reading simple vowelled words.
Choosing a starting point
If you recognise letters but cannot join them, the teacher starts at joining. If you can read slowly with many errors, you may skip to Quran Reading. The free trial includes a short private assessment.
Fitting it around work
Two 30-minute lessons a week at a fixed time, plus five minutes of daily practice, is a pattern working adults sustain. Early morning and late evening slots exist for UK and US time zones. See Quran for Adults.
What if I stop and start?
It happens. A teacher who knows your history picks up where you left off. Progress is not lost, only paused.
Read this first
You do not need to understand Arabic to learn to read the Quran. Reading and understanding are separate skills, and understanding can be added later through Arabic for Quran.
